Help for Hotshots & Cool Links
Hotshots are links to other water polo websites. Websites for teams, tournaments, leagues, clubs, facilities, equipment suppliers -- virtually anything involved with the sport are perfect for Hotshots.

As more and more links are added to Hotshots, you will appreciate being able to use our selection criteria to see only links to "teams" and "resources," which include organizations such as U.S. Water Polo. Alternately, you can view links by "country" of origin or "level" (collegiate, club, etc.) of competition.

To add a link, simply use our easy-to-use form. Our only request is that you only place one link to your site on Hotshots, preferably to your home page or main page.

Once links are submitted, they are reviewed and, if appropriate, posted to the Hotshots with our flashy "new" icon to encourage more visitors to your site.

Rules for Link Submissions
Please abide by the following:
  1. The web site must be relevant to the water polo community.
  2. One link per site. No multiple listings.
  3. Link to the home page or main page.
  4. No HTML code in the listing (ie. no <FONT> commands).
  5. No abusive or inappropriate language.
This service is a courtesy to the water polo community. The improper use of this feature will devalue its usefulness for everyone. Do not ruin it. If you have a question about your link, contact us prior to posting.
Frequently Asked Questions
  1. How many links may I add?
The more the merrier! Don't link to the same site more than once and make sure your post is relevant to the water polo community.

  2. Is the "New" image displayed with my new entry?
Yes. Your link will automatically have the "New" image displayed next to the site name for seven days after your submission.

  3. Do I need to submit the "http://" notation with my link?
Yes. Our link engine needs this information to work properly.

  4. Can I submit different links to various pages at the same site?
Be careful here! It is best to link to the home (main) page of your site. You may submit and additional link to a single page with the updates scores, team news or schedule. However, if you abuse this tool and link to many pages within your site, all your links will be removed and you may not submit for a period of time.

  5. If my web site is in the United States, what notation do I use for country?
USA is correct. Do not use "US", "United States" or "United States of America". We want our link engine to be able to group links by geographical location so we need to be consistent.

  6. Why the additional fields, such as web site type, gender and level?
This additional information allows visitors to sort the links dynamically. For example, you may desire to view all the 'collegiate' web sites located in 'Europe'. This feature extends far beyond the traditional scrolling-list method. Plus, we will be upgrading the sort and display capabilites to give the browser even more control.

  7. What if my site does not exactly meet a selection in the drop-down fields?
Please pick the selection that is closest. This helps our link engine function properly.

  8. What are the maximum length of the "Site Name" and "Web Address" fields?
The Site Name can be a maximum of eighty (80) characters and the Web Address can be a maximum of one hundred (100) characters. If your entry is too long, please shorten it.

Hotshots Tips & Tricks
  1. Choose a great headline
Keep it brief and interesting. You want to capture the attention of the web visitor. Take a look at our good example and poor example to get the idea. The headline can be a maximum of one hundred (100) characters.

A "Good" Link
Headline: Club Rico Water Polo, Normandy Beach, CA Southeastern Water Polo Conference Scoreboard

Notice how the name of the link lets the reader know exactly what that site is about.

A "Poor" Link
Headline: Team Tigers Water Polo Tournament

Notice how the reader has no idea of where this team is or what level. Also, the reader has no idea of what, when, or where about the tournament.
