Ricardo Azevedo1st Assistant National Team CoachSince 1992, Ricardo Azevedo has been the 1st Assistant Coach of the US Mens Water Polo team. He will also serve as assistant Olympic coach at the 1996 Games. Azevedo is head water polo coach and language teacher at Long Beach Wilson High School, where his team has a 142-28 record. In 1994, he was voted California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) "Coach of the Year." While working as head National Junior Team coach (1988-1992), his teams recorded the highest finish ever in the Junior World Championships, 4th in 1989 and 5th in 1991. From 1984-1988, Azevedo served as assistant National Junior Team coach. Azevedo played on the Brazilian National team from 1974 to 1980. He was twice voted Brazil's "Player of the Year." In 1976, his team won the gold medal in the South American Games. Azevedo received his bachelor of arts in Marketing from California State, Long Beach in 1980. He lives in Long Beach, CA with his wife Libby and children Anthony and Cassandra. Azevedo was born August 24, 1956 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
