Dan began playing as a 13-year-old field player. His childhood dream was to play shortstop for the NY Yankees, but baseball shortcomings became a water polo blessing. Dan's long arms, extended range and quick hands were form-fitted for a career as a distinguished goalkeeper. He has made remarkable strides following serious back surgery in October 1995. His best National Team highlight was defeating Hungary for the gold medal in the 1993 World University Games.

Dan enjoys spending free time on the beaches playing volleyball and surfing. Water polo and career goals are intertwined to win the gold for the US in Atlanta, to play professionally in Europe after the Games and to return to Sydney in 2000. He desires to improve language skills through international travel and to pursue a career which will showcase his creative writing skills. Currently, Dan is writing an instructional manual for goalkeepers.
